Marty Jones, Western Carolina University graduate, a resident of Cashiers and presently the owner/broker of RE/MAX Summit Properties, has filed as a candidate for the District 4 County Commission seat currently held by Mark Jones. District 4 encompasses South Jackson County including the Cashiers, Glenville, River, Canada and Caney Fork precincts. Upon filing Marty Jones stated at recent GOP meetings that he is running as a conservative alternate to Democrat Mark Jones.
As a county commissioner his focus will be on improving the Jackson County economy’s private sector. He is especially determined to restore the jobs lost in the county. In 2007 Marty Jones voiced opposition to development over regulation and predicted a loss of jobs. Jackson County now has a 9.4% unemployment rate.
Republican candidate Marty Jones, a resident of Jackson County since 1974 and a real estate broker since 1986, was also a professional fishing guide throughout Western North Carolina. He is a writer who continues to publish outdoor articles for newspapers and magazines.
Marty Jones’ community volunteer activities include positions as Past President of the Highlands Cashiers Board of Realtors and the Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley. He served as a State Director of the North Carolina Association of Realtors, Administrative Council Chair at the Cashiers United Methodist Church and Past Master Glenville Lodge # 551. In 2011 he was elected to the Board of the Greater Cashiers Area Merchants Association.
Marty Jones is married to Libby Dillard Jones and the couple has one son, Evan Jones.
