Both ends of Siler Road are now open and construction is virtually complete, said Mitchell Bishop, engineer for the project. Late last week, the portion of Siler Road featuring the new bridge was opened up having to be temporarily closed to allow final upgrades.
“When the contractor built the bridge there was a slight differentiation in the elevation of the pavement which caused a bump in the road,” explained Bishop. “In my opinion the bump caused the road not to be up to standard so we closed it to fix it and to allow a smoother ride on the road.”
According to Bishop the work on Siler Road is basically complete with the exception of clean-up and general maintenance items, which will be completed over the next couple of weeks. “There is still some work under the bridge that needs to be finished up, so one lane of the bridge might be closed over the next two weeks, but I wouldn't expect more than a five minute delay,” said Mitchell.
The portion of Siler Road connecting to the Georgia Road was repaved to properly connect it to the new road that was constructed to alleviate traffic caused by the new Wal-mart location. Mitchell explained that there was about a 10 to 15 foot difference in the elevation between the two roads so crews reworked the road to level it out.
