July 1 at Cowee Baptist Church
On Friday, July 1, Cowee Baptist Church will host the Illinois Baptist State Association All State Youth Choir. The choir will be performing a Worship Concert for the communities and churches of Macon County beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The concert theme is “God and Country” in celebration of the 4th of July. This year the choirs’ All State Tour and Mission Trip are to Florida. They are ministering by singing concerts and leading block parties for local churches and associations.
This year, Franklin will be one of their stops along the way. The choir consists of Baptist Youth grades 9-12. The students audition and are chosen by their singing ability, preparedness and on recommendation of their pastor or worship leader.
This year the choir is 50 voices strong. Conductor Pam Helton is a music professor in Jacksonville, Fla. Her husband, Neil, pastors Amelia Island Church. The mission trip is organized by the Illinois Baptist State Association and subsidized by the Cooperative Program from Illinois Southern Baptist Churches.
Steve Hamrick serves as director of worship and church music ministries for the state of Illinois. He will be accompanying the choir and making the necessary arrangements as they travel. Hamrick served here as Minister of Music and Youth at Franklin First Baptist Church in the early ’90s. His wife Linda was also the pianist during that time.
This is an Outreach Event to the people of Franklin and Macon County. The Cowee Baptist Church invites youth groups, children and adults from other churches and communities to join us for a time of great music, worship and fun.
