The managers of Bi-lo were pleased with the turnout of the annual charity golf tournament held Wednesday, June 15. Lesa Jordan, the general manager of Bi-lo, said that they made a little more than their goal of $5000 for CareNet.
There were 12 teams in all and several store vendors were involved to show their support as well, including: Coke, RC, and Little Debbie. Others that were involved were the Sheriff’s office, the Mill Creek Country Club, and even the Bi-lo store manager from Hendersonville. Dick Richards, is the treasurer and serves on the board of directors for CareNet. He also played in the tournament.
Before the game actually began, players could enjoy a turkey or ham sandwich lunch provided by Bi-lo and buy raffle tickets for such items as a quilt made and donated by a Bi-lo employee, a wine basket, a basketball hoop, the 50/50, and other door prizes.
The tournament winners were George Penland's group with a score of 49. Second place went to Derek Jones' team with a score of 53. And third place went to Chris McGuire's team with a score of 60. The longest drive, 340 yards, was made by Jeff Bishop.
