Victory Baptist Church located on 441, midway between Dillsboro and Franklin on Cowee Mountain, will be conducting its annual Patriotic Day on Sunday, July 3. The special guest for the day will be Major General John Grinalds.
General Grinalds is a graduate with honors from the US Military Academy at West Point. He was the first cadet since 1814 to be commissioned directly into the U.S. Marine Corps. General Grinalds served in the Mediterranean Region, Panama Canal Zone, Japan, Belgium and two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star for heroism in combat. He was inducted by French President Mitterrand into the French Legion of Honor.
In 1989 he was promoted to Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot in San Diego. He also served as president of the Citadel Military College in Charleston, S.C. from 1997-2005.
A special patriotic program of music and drama will be featured at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m. all veterans will be on stage and recognized for their service to our country and General Grinalds will share his Christian testimony. All are cordially invited to attend.
