The Franklin High School graduating class of 1951 met for its 60th Anniversary Saturday at Tartan Hall. Several of the class members could not be there, and several are deceased.
In 2001, this class established a scholarship for students from Franklin High and since that time 22 students have been helped with scholarships of various sizes.
As the committee handling the scholarships considered their ages, and the low interest rates available, the scholarship was discontinued with the issuance of the final scholarships this spring. The class was glad to have two of their former teachers celebrating with them, Clayton Ramsey and Myra Waldroop.
The old high school building in which this class studied was mysteriously burned to the ground the year after this group graduated. M
any changes have occurred during the past 60 years, but the afternoon renewed old feelings of connection and reminded all the celebrants of just how lucky they have been, both in the education obtained at Franklin High, and in so many of the class being able to attend the reunion.
A good number of the graduates have been able to remain in the Franklin area, and the ones far away have never forgotten their way home.
