In this tough economy, parents may find it difficult to get all the supplies and clothing their children need to start the new school year. For families looking to save money, employees of Murphy Group Practice have an idea to beat the back-to-school blues.
The second annual “Families Helping Families” Yard Sale and Celebration will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 a.m. to noon in the lower parking lot of Murphy Medical Center’s Medical Office Park on Highway 64 Alternate in Peachtree.
“The Murphy Medical Center family is reaching out to families in our community so they know we are there for them in sickness and in health,” Janet Shively, event coordinator said. “Everyone has stuff they need to clean out with kids growing as fast as they do. The idea is to have a common place for people to sell their children’s clothes and toys in order to buy things for the new school year. “
To make the yard sale fun for kids there will be a bounce house, games and prizes, and a real fire truck on site.
Registrations for free booth space will be accepted as long as space is available. Yard sale items should be limited to children’s clothing, toys, and baby items. Registration forms are available at any Murphy Group Practice office or at Peachtree Pediatrics.
Sponsors for the event are Murphy Medical Center, Murphy Group Practice (Family Practice, General Surgery, OB/GYN, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Family and Pregnancy Care, and the Hayesville Clinic), the Urgent Care Center, and Peachtree Pediatrics.
The United Way will also have a bin on site to collect school supplies for needy children.
In the case of rain, the event will be moved to Tri-County Community College’s Enloe Building, with signs to redirect participants.
