News Community Franklin native retires from public service

Ralph E. Morgan Jr.Ralph E. Morgan Jr. has retired from the Versailles (Ky.) Police Department.

Morgan is a native of Franklin, N.C. and is the son of Bertha Neal and the late Ralph E. Morgan Sr. After graduating from Franklin High School in 1989, he joined the United States Air Force, serving four years, including a tour of duty in the Middle East for Operation Desert Storm.

After his four years in the service, he moved to Lexington, Ky. to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. He was first hired at Nicholasville Police Department before transferring to Versailles Police Department.

During his 20-year law enforcement career, he served in various roles and ranks. He was certified through the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) as a firearms instructor and was the senior firearms instructor for his department.

He was also certified through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) as a Crime Scene Investigator / Evidence Technician and served in that role at his department. He taught The Graduated Licensing Program as a certified Instructor through Eastern Kentucky University and was a certified Kentucky DOCJT (Police Academy) instructor, teaching classes in rapid deployment, terrorism and gangs.

He was a member of the Central Kentucky Regional Gang task force, a Citizen’s Police Academy coordinator, served as a board member for the National Citizen’s Police Academy Association and was a certified SRO through NASRO.

In addition to these duties, he was also asked to serve with the United States Secret Service for Dignitary Protection. Dignitaries included former Presidents George H.W. Bush, President George W. Bush, former Vice President Richard Cheney and Queen Elizabeth II.

Morgan is married to Tiffany Wells Morgan. They have a son, Alex, and a daughter, Shelby. He and his family will reside in Kentucky where his wife is employed by the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Morgan plans to enjoy retirement spending time with his family, coaching middle school (boys) basketball and doing some law enforcement consulting.
