News Community Highlands Falls PAR 5K Sept. 10

The fundraising drive continues for Relay for Life of Highlands with the second annual Highlands Falls PAR 5K run. The run will take place September 10 at the Highlands Falls Country Club and will begin at 8am.

The course will run along the 3.1 miles along the country club golf course. David Linn, with Bringing It To Life! Productions, said the route will run along the cart path and, he adds, “there are some hills and I know a lot of people will be complaining about the hills so I will tell every walker and runner, ‘You thought these hills were bad, try battling cancer!’”

A light breakfast will be served to all participants after the race. Any spectators wishing to purchase “breakfast tickets” may do so during or after the race. Awards will be given to the top three male and female runners of various age groups as well as to the top three teams/walkers. The race day entry fee for individuals is $25, and for teams of three individuals each is $45. There will be various raffles held and the first 100 registered racers will receive race t-shirts and goodie bags.

Last year’s Highlands Falls PAR 5K run was sponsored by the Old Edwards Club and the proceeds were donated to the Highlands Literacy Council. Linn says “each year our goal is to host the PAR 5K at different country clubs of Macon County and donate the proceeds from each 5K to various nonprofit groups of the country, this year Relay for Life was chosen.”

Linn said that the idea for having the PAR 5k event came from when he was in training. “I have trained a few times along some of WNC’s golf courses and I was just shocked by the beauty of the golf grounds and the wonderful view of the surrounding mountains! I thought, what a great way to promote the various country clubs and golf courses of WNC; to host a 5K along their cart paths. Who does not enjoy the beauty of the mountains?”
