Jeanie Setser-Morgan has been selected as District Director for USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Western North Carolina, announced Aaron Martin, State Executive Director for the North Carolina Farm Service Agency (FSA). FSA administers federal farm programs at the county level. Setser will act as a liaison between local FSA offices in the 20 western-most counties and the State FSA Office in Raleigh. Counties included are: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, McDowell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, and Yancey.
A native of Murphy, Setser is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville and has over 20 years experience with FSA/ASCS in North Carolina. In 1990, she began as a Program Assistant in the Cherokee County ASCS Office. In 1999, she was hired as the County Executive Director (CED) for the Cherokee/Clay/Graham FSA Office in Murphy. Setser also served as CED in the Pitt County FSA Office in Greenville, NC, from 2002 to 2006 and, most recently, in the Beaufort-Hyde FSA Office in Washington, NC, from 2006 to 2010.
Setser says she is delighted to return to Western North Carolina and looks forward to working with the unique and diverse agriculture found in the mountains. Setser is the daughter of Geneva Barnett Setser and the late James “Pete” Setser and granddaughter of the late Sam and Jessie Barnett of Murphy and the late Bryan and Estelle Justice Setser of Franklin.
