Historic Downtown Franklin will be transformed into a “Winter Wonderland” on Friday, Dec. 2, during the Town’s annual celebration of the holiday season. Activities are scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. with plenty of holiday cheer for every member of the family.
This year’s schedule of events includes ice artist Ryan McCurdy from Asheville. McCurdy and crew will create a special slide made of ice for the young and young at heart to enjoy. There will also be a live demonstration of how ice sculptures are created as McCurdy and crew transform a large block of ice in to a work of art. Ice slide rides begin at 5 p.m. with the ice sculpting demonstration set for 7 p.m.
Free wagon rides will also be offered during Winter Wonderland beginning at 5 p.m. “We’re excited to have Curtis Allison back with us again this year,” said Linda Schlott, Franklin Main Street Program Coordinator. “Riders will board at Town Hall and make a loop through downtown Franklin.”
Roxy the miniature horse will also be back in action from her very popular appearance at Pumpkinfest. Youngsters 80 lbs. or less can ride Roxy beginning at 5 p.m. There is no charge for these rides.
Live entertainment at the gazebo will feature the South Macon Elementary School Chorus, Men Macon Music, and others.
Holiday characters will also be roving the streets for the young and young at heart to enjoy. Plus, many merchants windows will feature living displays of the holiday season. So be sure to bring a camera.
Downtown Franklin Merchants will also get in on the holiday fun. Stores will be open late offering free refreshments including hot cider and delicious treats to their patrons. Some stores will even have “living windows” depicting scenes of the holidays.
“We’ve worked hard to create an event that celebrates not only the holidays but the winter season,” Schlott continued. “This is a great family event and we look forward to seeing visitors from all over the area here in Franklin for Winter Wonderland.”
Winter Wonderland is sponsored by the Franklin Main Street Program, Town of Franklin, Franklin TDA and Macon County TDC.
