Vanessa Bailey, executive director of the Macon County Care Network (CareNet), presented information to the Franklin Daybreak Rotary Club on the needs and funding issues resulting from the slow economy.
The backpack program for students in the Macon County school system has increased from 61 per week to more than 600 per week.
Funding cuts have affected the ability to provide assistance for heating, rent and other items. Food donations continue to be good with a large portion coming from the Rotary Bag in the Newspaper Collection.
Donations (cash or food) are welcome at their office located at 130 Bidwell Street or (clothing or household) items at the thrift store at the old Social Security Building at Westgate Shopping Center.
