News Community Local Martin Luther King events

Although government offices will be closed on Monday to recognize Martin Luther King Day, several community organizations will be hosting events throughout the weekend to honor King's life and legacy.

The Human Relations Council will be hosting their annual event on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church on Harrison Avenue. The Council's award-winning C-Square Band will present a program of Freedom Songs. The Council will take up an offering and serve a light supper after the program.

On Monday, Jan. 16, the annual Peace March will be held beginning at 1:00 pm at the Big Bear Shelter on the Greenway. The march will proceed to Town Square for a program of music and readings.

During both events, the Human Relations Council is asking for guests to bring canned food to benefit CareNet.
