News Community Relay for Life 2012 event held

Carrying the torch for the 2012 Relay for Life is Honorary Chair Brenda Wooten leading the hundreds of participants in the annual walk to raise awareness for cancer, to encourage survivors and remember those who have lost the battle. The event is a yearround endeavor with teams from churches, clubs and businesses raising money to help in the fight against cancer. Teaming Up for a Cure was the theme for this year’s Relay which was held at the Franklin High School track on Friday and Saturday.Franklin's annual Relay for Life event was held last Friday and Saturday in the Panther Pit at Franklin High School.

The annual fund-raiser and memorial service began with guest speaker Bucky Tarr welcoming everyone to the Opening Ceremony Friday night. Tarr is currently a teacher and coach at Erwin High School and a former Franklin High School coach. He has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 17 months and is currently undergoing treatment. Tarr has been coaching for 31 years.

Throughout the weekend, entertainment was provided including, music by Abigail Roper, the Keirsten Hedden Band and Men Macon Music; Celebration Kids with Zee Keezer, Zumba Fitness sessions, and a performance by Danny Antoine's Karate Academy and games like cornhole and a scavenger hunt.
