News Community Habitat offers a ‘hand up’

Habitat For Humanity is a world wide non-profit organization focused on housing, having built over 500,000 homes around the world for needy families.

The Macon County Habitat For Humanity was founded in 1993 and has built 19 homes to date, as well as numerous home improvement projects, such as new roofs and access ramps for the handicapped.

Joe Sustarsic of the local Habitat is shown here explaining the program to the Franklin Kiwanis Club. He explained how qualifying home owners must volunteer at least 500 hours before Habitat begins construction of a new home, in keeping with its motto, “A hand up, not a hand out.”
