Franklin Boy Scout Troop 202 held its 9th annual 9/11 flag retirement ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Fire & Rescue on Maple Street.
The event is held each year to honor the men and women who died during the 9/11/2001 attacks. Brendan Karcher, Troop 202 Senior Patrol leader, led the scouts in the flag burning ritual.
First, the red and white stripes are cut apart and added to the fire individually. Then the remaining field of blue is kissed, uniting the 50 states and added to the fire.
