News Community Main Street Program dedicates bench in honor of Mike Schlott

Members of the Schlott family, friends, town officials, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #994 gathered to dedicate a Main Street bench in honor and memory of Mike Schlott, the late husband of Linda Schlott, executive director of Franklin’s Main Street program. The Franklin Main Street Program recently dedicated the second bench in their latest beautification initiative in the downtown district.

The late Mike Schlott, husband of Linda Schlott, was recipient of this honor.

“First of all, I would like to thank everyone that donated for the purchase of Mike’s bench,” said Linda Schlott, executive director of Franklin’s Main Street Program. “Sissy Pattillo and Bo Bryant spearheaded the collection of donations and the dedication ceremony. Mike would be just amazed.

“Mike helped with every event he could from setting up tables and chairs to keeping luminaries lit during Winter Wonderland,” said Schlott. “He always said he had every job I had. It wasn’t the other way around.” She said with a smile.

Members of Schlott’s family were on hand for the dedication including their daughters, Amelia and Tiffany, son-in-law Greg McLamb, and Joe and Gail Schlott.

The bench was donated by Rhodes Brothers Paving, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #994 and family friends.

“My girls appreciate that their dad has been honored in this special way. They always enjoyed volunteering with him during downtown events,” Schlott concluded.

The goal of this Main Street Program project is to place new benches in various areas within the program district. According to Schlott, eight more benches have been purchased and ordered by families and individuals and will soon be installed in various location in downtown Franklin. Each bench in this phase of installation honors the memory of former Franklin business owners on Main Street. A plaque is installed on each bench for the honoree.

Businesses and individuals may sponsor a bench that will be placed in areas where the public is able to utilize them. Sponsorship per bench is $1,200 including the custom plaque. For additional information call Linda Schlott (828)524-2516, ext. 304.
