Patti McClure speaks to ‘The Newhearts’

Patti McClure of Franklin spoke at The NewHearts Thankful Banquet recently. McClure is a heart transplant recipient having received her new heart at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

The Newhearts is associated with the Carolinas Medical Center of Charlotte as a support group for people who have had a heart transplant, or people who are waiting for a transplant and their immediate families.

The group provides educational support through bimonthly meetings and special classes held at the hospital. They individually provide emotional support to the families at the hospital, at home, or wherever the need arises. Financial assistance, other than medical and hospital expenses, are also provided to the families that have a special financial need.

Members also spend personal time speaking to groups and educating the public on the need for all organ donations, regardless of whether it is heart, liver, kidney, lung, skin, eye, pancreas, stomach, bone or bone marrow.
