News Community Gingerbread House winners announced

Grand Champion Kendall Rumans - Child/Youth DivisionThe Franklin Chamber of Commerce hosted Franklin’s First Annual Gingerbread House Competition during this year’s Winter Wonderland in the Board Room at Franklin’s Town Hall (lower level).

Nineteen bakers designed, baked and decorated their version of gingerbread houses and entered them into the competition. Twelve houses were entered in the children/youth division and seven in the adult division. Entries were judged on a scale of 1-10 based on overall appearance, originality, difficulty and workmanship.

The judges awarded the following entries:

Children/Youth Division
Grand Champion: Kendall Rumans (# 11)
2nd Place: Abbi Hopkins & Erica Myers (# 5)
3rd Place: Kids from the Awtrey, Coker & Beller Families (# 10)
Honorable Mention: Clint Cabe (# 6)
Honorable Mention: Canaan Drake (# 2)

Adult Division
Grand Champion Laurie Beegle Adult DivisionGrand Champion: Laurie Beegle (# 17)
2nd Place: Revonda Roten (# 15)
3rd Place: Mickey McIver & Susan McGrath
Honorable Mention: Lisa Marling (# 18)
Honorable Mention: Sarah Dills (# 14)

During Winter Wonderland the public was given the opportunity to view the entries and vote for their favorite. While everyone was given one vote to cast, the decision was made to award both age divisions. 738 votes were tallied and the People’s Choice winners are:

— Children/Youth Division: The Awtrey, Coker and Beller Families (# 10) The Igloo Family.

— Adult Division: Laurie Beegle (# 17). Laurie recreated her actual home for her entry.
