REACH of Macon County is centered around offering services to victims of domestic violence in Jackson and Macon counties. The holidays prove to be a busy time for REACH as they work to ensure the families benefitting from the organization have a happy holiday. Local groups joined in to help REACH in their mission.
Members of the Western Carolina Dance Team wrapped gifts for patrons and assisted in the Macon County REACH for Bargains store on Saturday, Dec. 7.
“We feel a great connection to Franklin as we work with the Franklin High School Dance Team so we wanted to give back to the community that supports us so well. We were honored to work with Jennifer Turner- Lynn, Franklin High School Spirit Programs Coordinator and Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator at REACH of Macon County, to establish this service project, and hope to continue it for years to come. Special thanks to B. H. Graning Landscapes for their donation of wrapping supplies,” reads a statement from the dance team.
Members of the WCU Dance Team who donated their time and energy to making this a truly happy holiday event were Dawn Henderson, Shani Searcy, Larissa Capps, Meredith Ivey, Allie Cross, Kristen Dotson, Staci Batts, Marina Lee, Amy Manshack and Jessica Graning.
Another organization seeking to give a Merry Christmas to domestic violence victims is The Bascom in Highlands who sponsors the annual Bascom's Giving Tree in which organizations are able to set up a tree and offer information about their agency and organization. This year, REACH's tree had tags with wishes that let people know how they could support REACH and its mission. Homemade ornaments hung on the tree in teal and purple (the colors for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assualt) that donors could take with a recommended donation.
