Girl Scout Troop 30511 of Franklin held a candlelight ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 22, at First United Methodist Church to pin several girls with their Silver Awards. This is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn.
To receive the award the girls worked with CareNet to collect coats for boys and girls ranging in sizes from toddler to older kids.
The girls made posters about their coat drive as well as public service announcements to inspire churches in the area to put out boxes and participate in the coat drive. They then collected the coats and delivered them to CareNet.
They toured the facility and learned how the organization works to provide food and other assistance (such as warm coats) to people in need if they cannot get government or other forms of assistance.
members also met at Silver Threads and Golden Needles, a local knitting shop, and took knitting lessons. They used their skills to make hats for children to go with the coats.
