May is designated as the American Legion Auxiliary's Poppy Month.
The Auxiliary uses the donations received from the sale of poppies to fund projects that benefit local veterans and their families.
John Crawford, 92, lifetime member of American Legion Post 108, helps the Auxiliary, as he has done for many, many years by distributing poppies.
Last year, he raised more than $700.
Crawford can be found on Main Street on weekends in May, selflessly collecting donations.
A memorial service will be held at Veterans Memorial Park on Georgia Road Monday, May 30, at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited.
