This summer more than 23,000 students have made a decision to pay money out of their own pockets in order to help improve living conditions for people across the United States and Canada.

246 students from across the nation will be in Franklin the week of July 18 working on a variety of assignments that range from painting houses to putting new roofs on homes. The students come with their church youth groups, and on average pay $250 to take part in the week.

Lyman Lance, president of the Pine Grove School Community Center presented Rebecca Lynn Dills with a $250 academic scholarship award.

This was the first award for the community center which hopes to present an award annually to a deserving community student.

 

 

On Thursday, July 7, Jim Kautz took a group from Macon County Summer Edventure Camp to the Cherokee Mound in Cowee.

Following a powerpoint introduction of William Bartram’s travels through the area in 1775, the 15 “young scientists” traced Bartram’s steps to the mound where they viewed the beautiful “Vale of Cowee.”

Ann Clark of Franklin announces the engagment and forthcoming marriage of her daughter, Rebecca Dovie Green, to Colton Tyler Harden, son of Larry and Christie Mace of Otto.

The wedding is set for Dec. 3 and will be held at Otto Fire Department.
