The Franklin Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony welcoming The Children’s Home to Franklin’s business community. The Children’s Home is located at 827 Wiley Brown Road.

Founded by the Methodist church, The Children’s Home’s main campus is located in Winston Salem and has been providing service for 102 years. Part of the long range plan for many years was to offer a facility in the western part of the state. In 2000, The Franklin Campus of the Children’s Home was opened to serve the seven westernmost counties in North Carolina.

The aptly named “Day in the Park” saw locals and members of various local churches spending an afternoon enjoying Jaycee Park in West Franklin last Saturday.

From 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., various games, activities and a hot dog lunch were held at the park. “It’s endless what you can do here,” said event organizer Kathy Hildreath. “It’s about developing a relationship with this community. For most people, this is just a part of town you drive through. Nobody really notices the park.”

Franklin residents gathered to participate in the National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 3, at noon on the square in downtown Franklin.

“One Nation Under God” was this year’s theme.

Local pastors prayed for families, churches, schools, businesses and government.

A group from Franklin Covenant Church provided the accompaniment for the singing portion of the program.

Paul Backhaus of First Assembly of God prayed for the nation’s churches.

Macon Bank donated 62 bushes and shrubs recycled from the old Franklin Motel property to the Mountain View Intermediate Schoo to replace the plants that were stolen from the school earlier in the month.

Holes were machine bored and the plants were placed in locations specified by Debbie Gibbs, science teacher at the school.
