The sixth annual World Massage Festival and Massage Therapy Hall of Fame will be held at WCU beginning Thursday July 14, and continuing through Sunday, July 17.

The festival will provide an opportunity for residents to experience various types of massage, learn about massage therapy as a profession, speak with representatives of massage schools, and network with instructors and therapists.

The Bascom held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on Wednesday, June 22. The Bascom boasts more than 150 volunteers.

This year’s Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Margie Shambaugh.

Under Shambaugh’s leadership, The Bascom’s volunteer program has grown not only in the number and passion of its volunteers but also in its professionalism of recruiting, scheduling and recognition.

Victory Baptist Church on Cowee Mountain would like to invite the surrounding communities to Neighborhood Bible Time. NBT is a Bible School taken to the extreme. Two youth evangelists have been invited to lead the activities. One will lead preschool through 6th grades with each class having story time, class time, game time and snack time which leads up to a great rally time with super stories, great preaching, balloon animals, prizes and achievement ribbons.

Members of the Franklin Amateur Radio Club were among the estimated 35,000 “ham” radio operators around the world who took part in the annual American Radio Relay League’s Field Day on Saturday, June 25.

Begun in 1933, amateur radio operators throughout North America have practiced the rapid deployment of radio communications equipment in environments ranging from operations under tents, in remote areas, to operations inside emergency operations centers. The Franklin club operated from Tassee Shelter on the Greenway.

The local club members contacted other hams throughout the day although atmospheric conditions limited long distance contacts. The furthest contact made was with a station in Ontario.
