Representatives from the Eastern Band of the Cherokees will join “Taste of Scotland “ this weekend. Current chief Michell Hicks and retired chief Robert Youngdeer will be honored guests along with dancer Eddie Swimmer.

Swimmer will perform authentic Indian dances, including the Hoop Dance, at the Gazebo. During the Indian Symposium, he will talk about the relationship between the Scots and the Cherokee. Chief Youngdeer will speak on his memoirs entitled “A Marine, Chief and Proud American.”


Relay for Life of Franklin will be held Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. at the Franklin High School football field. In the past, the event was be an all-night event rather than all-day. Admission is free. Parking is free.

Co-chairs of this year's event are Tammy Dills and Jean Crane, and the theme is “Country Folks Can Survive, Fightin’ For A Cure.” This year’s goal is to raise $80,000.

Almost 40 teams will be participating, however, you do not have to be a member of a team to attend.


The Franklin High School graduation ceremony was held Friday, May 31, at the Ramsey Center at Western Carolina University.

The conferring of diplomas was conducted by FHS principal Dr. Chris Baldwin and assistant principals Pamela Cabe and Barry Woody.

FHS Chamber Singers directed by Robert Jessup, provided the musical accompaniment.


Macon Early College held its commencement Sunday, June 2, at Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts in Franklin.
