On Friday, June 1, Republican Commissioners Kevin Corbin and Ron Haven joined Democratic Commissioner Ronnie Beale at Walmart in Franklin to raise money for the Children's Hospital.

In a “Jail For Bail” fundraiser, they raised more than $400 in one hour.

Franklin Police Officer Dwayne Cabe, shown “guarding the prisoners” raised more than $700 during his time in the “jail.”

 

Members of the Macon Hoofprints 4H Club recently participated in the West District 4H Horse Show at the WNC Agriculture Center in Fletcher, N.C. on May 6.

Nathan Jenkins participated in the Gaited/Non-Trotting Division, while the other three all competed in the Western Little Britches Division.

Autumn Lance won Grand Champion and Arissa Bowers won Reserve Champion in their division, which means they were the top two point earners for the show.

Habitat For Humanity is a world wide non-profit organization focused on housing, having built over 500,000 homes around the world for needy families.

The Macon County Habitat For Humanity was founded in 1993 and has built 19 homes to date, as well as numerous home improvement projects, such as new roofs and access ramps for the handicapped.

Joe Sustarsic of the local Habitat is shown here explaining the program to the Franklin Kiwanis Club. He explained how qualifying home owners must volunteer at least 500 hours before Habitat begins construction of a new home, in keeping with its motto, “A hand up, not a hand out.”
