The Region A Partnership for children recently received $2,000 in grant funding from the Wells Fargo Bank Foundation to support an expansion of the Family Support Network (FSN) program. “We are grateful to the Wells Fargo Bank Foundation Community Development grant program for this much needed addition to our current funding for the Family Support Network program in Region A,” said Janice Edgerton, executive director of the Region A Partnership for Children. “We have been operating the Family Support Network program in Region A for over eight years.


Macon County will honor its veterans with a special parade and ceremony on Monday, Nov. 12. event will begin at 11 a.m. with a Veterans’ Parade through downtown Franklin and will be followed by a ceremony at the Gazebo on the Square featuring keynote speaker Rick Norton, president of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #994.

The ceremony will also feature remarks by local officials and music by local elementary school children who will sing for the veterans. The ceremony will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony on the courtyard of the Macon County Courthouse.


The Smoky Mountain Quilters guild surprised members of Franklin's American Legion Post 108, when they present three service members with Quilts of Valor (QOV) for their service and dedication to the United States Military. Smoky Mountain quilters Terry Barr and Carlie Nichols displayed half a dozen quilts that were made by a team of volunteers for each veteran to choose from.

Franklin veterans Ken Carpenter, Don Bowen, and Mike Coates have all served the United States as members of the Navy. They were selected to receive QOV for their service in the military and their service to the community since their return.


Every year, area veterans groups donate to Shop With a Cop, a program designed to make sure every needy child has a Merry Christmas.

The American Legion Post 108, VFW Post 7339 and the Sons of the American Legion have donated $1,250 to the program.
