The Franklin Auction Company, owned by Greg Vernelson, held its first annual Wounded Warriors Benefit Auction, Tuesday evening Sept. 25, in their building located at 113 Bowling Lane in Franklin.

Donations were given by individuals and businesses from Franklin and the surrounding areas.

Around 200 people attended and all together $7,809 was raised, with 100 percent of the funds being donated to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Mary Lee Clement celebrated her 99th Birthday on Sept. 2 with her daughters, Beverly Barnett and Brenda Wilson.

Clement is an active member of Franklin Garden Club and Kiwanis of Franklin.

She credits her long and healthy life to her religious beliefs; being active and always having a positive attitude.

The Board of Commissioners recognized two Vietnam Prisoners of War (POWs) for their service and sacrifice on behalf of Macon County in a special ceremony Wednesday afternoon.

The board presented Dr. Tom McNish and Nathan B. Henry with Medallions of Honor, the highest honor the board can award to an individual.


The September edition of StreetFest is planned to show support for the Franklin High School Panthers before Friday night's football game against the Smoky Mountain Mustangs. In preparation for the first StreetFest of fall, Streets of Franklin, with support from Venture Local Franklin, decorated downtown this week with cornstalks, pumpkins and fall colors to make Friday night even more festive. Shop owners and visitors to downtown are encouraged to wear red to support the Franklin Panthers.

Friday night's StreetFest, which has been bumped up to start at 5 p.m., will give folks the opportunity to visit downtown and tailgate with great food and shopping from Main Street businesses, while enjoying free entertainment from local musicians, which will be split between two stages on both ends of Main Street.
