As part of its continuing effort to improve services to home school operators and provide useful resources regarding state law and policy, the Division of Non-Public Education (DNPE) today posted a new “Home School Guidebook” on its website.
The downloadable guide, designed to be easily hole-punched and kept as a handy resource, is intended to help home school operators become more familiar with DNPE’s new online reporting process as well as answers questions frequently asked by families considering home-schooling as an option for their children.
“We hear from a lot of families who are uncertain about what they need to do, or the factors they should consider before opening a home school,” said Dr. Chená Flood, DNPE Director. “We want to do all we can to support our home school families so their children will achieve academic success.”
While home schools operate under different rules than public schools, student success is at the core of both. DNPE is stepping up its outreach to help meet anticipated needs because home schools – like public schools, which will operate under a budget cut by the Legislature – also are expected to “do more with less” this year.
The guide includes legal requirements for establishing and maintaining a home school, as well as resources for selecting a national standardized testing tool to meet annual requirements. It also provides information regarding Driver’s Education and Driver Eligibility Certificates, and copies of forms used by DNPE.
