News Education WCU welcomes prospective students, their families to Open House on Oct. 29

Western Carolina University will open its doors to prospective students and their families as the university holds its first Open House of the fall semester Saturday, Oct. 29.

Hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admission, Open House is designed to give interested students an insider’s view of what living and learning is like on the WCU campus. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the campus, learn about the university’s wide array of academic programs and extracurricular opportunities, and find out the important details of topics such as financial aid.

Open House will begin with registration and an academic fair located around the concourse of WCU’s Ramsey Regional Activity Center from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Following a 10 a.m. welcome session in the main arena of the Ramsey Center, visitors will have a chance to engage in more in-depth academic sessions led by faculty members from more than 25 WCU departments from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.

Tours of campus from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. will be followed by an information fair outside on WCU’s new Central Plaza from 12:30 to 2 p.m., where prospective students will be able to find out about the many activities, student organizations and services that are available for WCU students.

Tours of residence halls and the Campus Recreation Center will be given starting at 12:30 p.m., and lunch will be available at university dining facilities. Students can redeem their free lunch voucher at Courtyard Dining Hall or the University Center food court, and other guests may purchase lunch at any dining location.

Beginning at 1 p.m., a series of 30-minute information sessions will be available that will address topics such as transferring to WCU, the admissions process and living in WCU residence halls.

For interested students who cannot attend the Oct. 29 event, WCU also will be holding Open House on three other Saturdays this academic year – Nov. 12, Feb. 18 and March 24. Also, campus tours are available year-round by appointment for students and their families.

Registration for Open House and more information is available by going to the website openhouse.wcu.edu or by calling the Office of Undergraduate Admission at 828-227-7317 or toll-free 877-928-4968.
