The Region A partnership for Children has received $20,000 in grant funding from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina to supplement current funding to expand the Family Support Network Project in Region A. The Community Foundation is a nonprofit serving 18 counties in Western North Carolina.
The Region A Family Support Network program has operated for eight years in the region serving over 1400 families. Families of children with special needs benefit from the help and support that other families provide and from information about their child’s special needs and available resources. One of the key elements of the program is that the Family Support Network Coordinator assists parents in becoming stronger and more educated advocates for their child and teaches them how to access services and to navigate the complex system of services for children with special needs. This supplemental funding will assist in serving an additional 90 families.
The Region A Partnership for Children administers North Carolina’s Smart Start and NC Pre-K initiatives in the seven westernmost counties and on the Qualla Boundary. The goal of the Partnership is to ensure that all children arrive at school healthy and prepared to succeed.
