News Education Ringling Circus Clowns help promote literacy

Clowning around for books

The ambassador clowns (Cherie and Dave Gregg) from the Ringling Brothers Circus visited the Macon County Children's Library and Macon Program for Progress on Tuesday, April 16.

The event, which was made possible through the library, kicked off a literacy program that allows local children to earn a free ticket to the circus by picking up their reading coupon at the library.

All children who read five books and have the children's librarian stamp the coupon with the elephant stamp can then redeem the reading coupon for a circus ticket by following the instructions on the coupons. Each paid adult admission can redeem three free children's tickets.

Both children and parents alike laughed at the clowns and are excited for the opportunity to attend the circus in Asheville May 9-12.
