As we begin 2013, our country and state face many challenges. Creating jobs and reducing our national debt are two of my top priorities, and tackling them in a meaningful way will require political courage and cooperation from Democrats and Republicans. This year, I will keep working to find bipartisan solutions to our most pressing issues.
In 2013, I also remain committed to providing first-rate constituent services to all North Carolinians. If you run into bureaucratic red tape, please know that the doors of my office are always open.
Over the last four years, I’ve traveled to every corner of our state, meeting with North Carolinians one-on-one. In all 100 counties, I’ve held face-to-face meetings—known as “Conversations with Kay”—that allow me to hear your questions and concerns firsthand. I’ve gone to work helping North Carolinians solve problems on the ground, from ensuring veterans receive the benefits they’ve earned to helping homeowners stay in their homes.
So far, my staff and I have resolved more than 20,000 constituent cases. One of these cases involved a married couple I met in Eastern North Carolina. They were incredibly frustrated as they faced a 17 percent interest rate on their mortgage—they didn’t know how it could have become so high. My office immediately consulted with the couple and their lender, and was able to lower their rate to 4.25 percent.
In this new year, I will continue to prioritize constituent services and meet with North Carolinians around our state. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need assistance. I have five offices across North Carolina to ensure that you can access my staff and me; I also open my Washington, DC office to visiting North Carolinians each Wednesday morning when the Senate is in session to have coffee and hear about the issues important to you. I encourage you to be in touch with me, and I look forward to seeing you in 2013!

Catching Up With Kay" is a new tool that Senator Hagan's office will use to keep North Carolinians informed about Senator Hagan's work in Washington and her travels throughout the state.
