Opinion Letters Program to provide number one items to troops

Operation North State needs assistance regarding the following request for our North Carolina troops deployed in Afghanistan.

We just wrapped up our Christmas gift box program whereby we sent 500 gift boxes filled with N.C. goodies to the men and women from North Carolina serving in all branches of the armed forces that were deployed during the Christmas holidays and weren’t home with their loved ones and friends. The program was a huge success.

Since completing the project back on Dec. 14, we have received dozens of requests to provide additional boxes. We aren’t able to fulfill additional boxes at this time because we depleted our inventory and funding for the program. We will however, be holding the “Second Annual Christmas Gift Box Program” in 2011.

That said, we’re kicking off a new “much needed” program. All military troops are always in need of the basic personal items which we all take for granted; we have listed those items on our website at www.operationnorthstate.com under the “Programs” tab and the program is titled “The Basics.” Our goal for this new program is to provide the current number one most requested items to the North Carolina troops serving in the Middle East/Afghanistan. It’s presently bitter cold in Afghanistan. Those items are hot drinks (coffee, tea, cocoa) with sugar/creamer. Help us put together 100 boxes (12”x12”x6”) filled with these items along with some North Carolina peppermint hard candy to send to our N.C. troops ASAP. We will ask the N.C. troops to share the items with their fellow troops. I can’t imagine not having a cup of coffee or hot drink available during these extreme weather conditions.

We need to have all the donations received and the boxes shipped by Jan. 24. We have already identified the 100 recipients for the boxes. We just need funding; supporters can make donations by visiting www.operationnorthstate.com and click on “How To Donate.”

Our staff, the supporters of Operation North State, the N.C. troops and their families/friends and I wish to thank you for your support. Our programs are highly endorsed by N.C. veterans. We receive so much support from the veterans and they greatly appreciate what Operation North State and its supporters are doing for the N.C. troops.

Your support will make your next cup of coffee seem a little more special!

Sincerely,

Terry Snyder — Founder/Volunteer
Operation North State
