Opinion Letters Thanks to those who helped us through

We always thought we lived in a great community but after a tragic loss, we know we do. A few weeks ago, our home, owned by Steve Beck, our good friend of many years, was destroyed by fire. Not only was it a personal loss for Steve, but a great personal loss for us, the greatest was losing three of our family pets.

Fortunately for us our neighbors and friends the Spearmans and the Drakes saw the situation first and came to help us to safety.

Within minutes, the firemen, first responders and EMS were taking control of everything. Professionally, they were doing their job. Personally, the compassion and care they gave to us was immeasurable.

How do we ever thank these folks? John Hook from Animal Control along with his wife, Kathy, took care of our surviving little dog. The beautiful lady that along with my friend, Donna, helped me through the burial of our pets by the firemen. All the strangers, friends and family that were there for us. There is just no way to convey what it meant to us. We are getting back on our feet and want to thank everyone for their help: Patricia Bazemore, an angel of mercy, that coordinated so many things for us; the American Red Cross; Habitat for Humanity; the Franklin Motel; our wonderful VA Home Health Care team; and the businesses and various others that we don’t even know that assisted us. We want to give special thanks to all of them and our great family!

We are very proud to live in a great community of caring people.

Jackie and Jim Livesay — Franklin, N.C.
