Opinion Letters Parents Should Be Aware of Immunization

If you have a child entering the 6th grade, you need to know about the immunization requirement for 6th grade entry.

A booster of the tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis vaccine, is now required for all children enrolled in public school prior to entering 6th grade. Children attending private, religious, or home schools are required to receive this vaccine by age 12.

School Nurses will be offering this vaccination to all 5th graders during the month of March. Permission slips will be sent home thru the school system for parents to either accept or decline the school immunization.

You may also get this vaccine at your doctor's office or at Macon County Public Health. For more information contact your school nurse, health care provider, or the Macon County Public Health at 349-2081.
