On behalf of the Franklin Young Professionals, we would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation for the support from this community towards our “Macon Waves Ducky Derby” event that recently partnered with the “NC Big Sweep” and “Land Trust for the Little Tennessee.”
Together we were able to pull one ton of waste from numerous waterways in Franklin like the Little Tennessee River and Cullasaja River. Thank you to the many volunteers that made this all possible. And thank you to Guy Gooder at Gooder Grafix for hosting the N.C. Big Sweep year after year. We also would like to thank Jill Wiggins with LTLT for setting up an educational experience at the N.C. Big Sweep. We look forward to working with this community much more in the very near future.
Along with all of the trash pulled from our rivers, the Macon Waves Ducky Derby was also a huge success. We raised $4,000 to put towards FYP’s Scholarship Fund, while a portion of this will go to improving the Little Tennessee River Greenway. Certainly a ‘win-win’ situation.
We want to thank our many sponsors that made it all possible.
In no particular order, they are: Becky Ramey, Earthcare, Franklin Veterinary Hospital, Farm Bureau, Barber Pottery, Lamplighter McCoy Real Estate, Main St. Pizzeria, My Favorite Things, TekTone, Gooder Grafix, Folk Heritage Association, Stella & Dot, Macon Rental, Fun Factory, The Art Room, DNET, Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, Macon Bank, Smoky Mountain Bicycles, First Citizens Bank, Frogtown Deli & Market, Nantahala Bank, Fly Away Cabin, N&N Express Mart, Old Edwards Inn & Spa, Mulligans Bar & Grille, Angel Medical Center, Franklin Fitness Center, Lucio’s Italian Restaurant, Fat Buddies, Ingles Markets, Keebler, Nabisco, Pepsi, Food Lion, WNC Sports Zone, Sara Lee, Frito Lay, Mi Casa, Gazebo Creekside Cafe, Franklin Tractor Services (FTS) & Rosebud Cottage.
Wow ... that was a lot of support, and we thank you Franklin.
Next up, a big thank you to this community for purchasing all of those ducks. Well over 700 ducks were purchased, making our Ducky Derby possible.
And last but certainly not least, we are very fortunate to have the support of our local news outlets: Macon County News, The Franklin Press & Thunder Pig (independent journalist) for great coverage of the entire event.
