Opinion Letters Stealing yard signs makes your own party appear desperate

The Macon County Democratic and Republican Parties both agree that it is not only illegal but against all the principals and values that each Party stands for when someone steals political yard signs. The basis of our Democracy is on the discussion of important political issues by the people and our Constitution guarantees each citizen the Right of Freedom of Speech. Political yard signs are just an extension of that Right of Free Speech.

Both Parties agree that the people of Macon County value integrity, fairness and respect for our neighbors. There is absolutely no place for stealing yard signs from your neighbors no matter how much you disagree with their political choices. In fact anyone stealing a yard sign from an opposing party makes his own party appear desperate, unable to compete on facts, and to have no sense of right and wrong.

The leadership of both the Macon County Democratic and Republican Parties urge all citizens to refrain from the illegal and despicable act of cowardice in stealing our neighbor's political yard signs. We can do better that that in Macon County.

Ed Morris, Chairman
Macon County Democratic Party

Kathy Hildreth, Chairperson
Macon County Republican Party
