Guided by Paul Ryan’s recommendations the U.S. House of Representatives has rejected every plan submitted by the Obama administration to create jobs for the middle class. Republicans refuse to consider plans which included even the slightest tax increase on wealthy Americans. They insist on balancing the budget by slashing programs benefitting middle- class Americans, programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Making Obama a one-term president has been their number one goal and to heck with the economy!
Senator Jim Davis and the Republican dominated N.C. legislature have not generated a single job creation bill. Civil workers and teachers have lost jobs throughout North Carolina. Western North Carolina counties have the highest unemployment rates in this state. Republican legislators spent much of their time trying to restrict voting while slashing funding for programs benefitting middle-class and poor women and children. The gas tax has gone up while taxes for wealthy businesses, doctors, lawyers and orthodontists have gone down.
Republicans at the state and national levels share the “trickle down” economic philosophy. “Trickle down” put America into the Great Depression of the 1930’s and the Great Recession this past decade. The wondrous thing is that, in spite of Republican obstructionism, Obama’s administration has managed to pull us out of a deep recession and put us on the road to recovery. National unemployment is at the lowest level since 2008; consumer confidence is up, foreclosures are down and the stock market and the banking system are flourishing.
Obama and the Democrats have a proven record of providing programs to help the middle-class and create economic growth. The Republicans’ “trickle down” plan has been tested and receives a failing grade. Americans must vote to move forward with policies that are working and reject the failed policies of the past.
