Opinion Letters Santa Pal accepts all donations with gratitude

The season of joy and giving is now upon us. The Franklin Lions Club will be hoping for the kind generosity of this community once again. Over the next few weekends, you will see members of our club out in front of local businesses collecting from what we fondly refer to as our "dime boards." This is our annual project to raise money to take children in our community shopping for new clothes at Christmas. As part of our "Santa Pal" event, the children we venture to make a better Holiday Season for will receive breakfast, shopping and a visit with Santa (where toys are involved!) We gladly accept all donations with gratitude.

We really want the good people of Macon County to know that all of our funds stay in this county unlike some of the other organizations that will also have their hand out at this time of year. We would like to express to our first donor of the year -Vietnam Veteran's of America the local chapter-how much we appreciate them.

On another note, our club participated in another Lion's project this year. It was a Celebrate Liberty essay contest. We encouraged students at the high school to enter this contest. Our local winner was Christy Barton a junior at FHS. She was also the district winner and now her essay will go on to the State level. We congratulate her and thank all the other students who participated.

Thanking this fine community in advance for the support you show the Franklin Lions Club. May your Holiday Season be happy and blessed.

Ruth Hensz-Stilwell, President Franklin Lions Club
