It is totally reprehensible to use the United Nations as a fearmongering tool in Macon County political discourse.  I write as a person with some knowledge.  While I have never been a UN employee, I have on occasion collaborated on UN-supported programs – not in this country, but in Costa Rica and Panama.  One of them specifically supported private property rights by assisting small landholders to acquire legal title to farms they had worked for many years.  That some of the beneficiaries reacted to enhanced property value by selling their properties was not the intended result, but it certainly gives the lie to the image of the UN as anti-private property zealots.

I believe office seekers fall into three categories: Those who truly want to help their community, state and nation become a better place for all their citizens, those who are initially motivated by greed and the lust for power, and those who, having lost their idealism, desperately want to cling to their incumbency for all the perks their positions provide. What kind of politicians do you want working for you?

Until recent years, politicians acknowledged the need for compromise in order to get things done. Now the leadership of both parties values entrenched positions over reasonable compromise, so nothing important gets accomplished. I say throw the uncompromising ideologues of both parties out of office and let more reasonable people assume leadership roles.

As a child of the Great Depression, history has been my teacher as I lived it and read it. The greedy, corrupt manipulators of Wall Street, banks and our interconnected financial systems, all hand-in-glove, collasped our national economy. Leaving the wreckage of human lives without jobs or safety nets. History does repeat itself; As I had to watch President Goerge Bush and his Republican cohorts provide a safe haven (well hidden during his reign of eight years) for the same type of greedy, corrupt financial manipulators of financials sytems that brought on the many years of the Great Depression, and the “great recession” that started erupting before 2008.

Are we really as stupid and uninformed as the Republican Party obviously believes us to be? Lets look at the presidential, Republican hopeful Mitt Romney; as he really is without his public facade.
