After watching the video of the 12-3-2012 Town Board meeting online (view it here), I was appalled at what I saw.

Brittney Parker, a Macon News reporter, speaks about an attack by a Town Board member concerning her fidgeting during a meeting. Miss Parker has disabilities and a debilitating injury that she has worked hard to overcome.

I have enjoyed the Venture Local series written by Brittney Parker. From restaurants and artisans to merchants and manufacturing and from consignment shops all the way to fitness, I have learned about the businesses belonging to my friends and neighbors.

Each Venture Local article gave highlighted businesses a chance to shine. What a wonderful way to educate our community about the many opportunities available in Franklin!

With the recent emphasis on shopping locally, especially from the “Main Street” merchants, one merchant went above and beyond doing something for the merchants and residents of Macon County.

On Monday, Nov. 19, Tony Hernandez, owner of “Life's Bounty Bakery & Cafe” opened his Event Center on Main Street for a complete Thanksgiving feast. A full buffet with two pastas, turkey, dressing, potatoes, pot roast, meatloaf, lots of veggies, fresh baked rolls and a huge array of fabulous desserts. All of which was delicious.

During this busy season when we create so much extra wasteful “stuff,” thanks to Joel Ostroff and team at our Solid Waste Department who provide a convenient process to recycle.

Also, we honor the Iotla dropoff with a 5-star rating. The employees are always outside to help answer questions and unload recyclables. The peppy little lady there, Linda, has sparkled up the “reception area” with colorful seasonal decorations (rescued from throwaways, of course) and always greets the customer with “let me help you,” taking a box of recyclables to deposit in the proper container.
