We all have said the pledge of allegiance to the flag, as well as other pledges. It seems as though it can become so common that we take little time to think of why and for what reason I'm pledging. A pledge is a life commitment or an alliance we share as in our flag and “United States Constitution.” Most of us born in America, take little thought why or how these ideals came into being, and our citizens that have come from other countries have been taught a more in-depth civics than most have, and look a these pledges and commitments with more appreciation than most. Vietnam Veterans of America, Smoky Mountain Chapter 994, would like to express our sincere appreciation to The Macon County News and Shopping Guide for their outstanding coverage of the dedication of the Nathan B. Henry Bridge on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012.

It was an honor for Chapter 994 to be a part of the dedication ceremony. Nat Henry is an inspiration not only to veterans but to all citizens of Macon County. His sacrifices as a P.O.W. can never be repaid. All we can do is honor Nat in the highest and most meaningful ways, such as the dedication of the Nathan B. Henry Bridge.

I think voting to me is a privilege besides, it is what I call "My get even day." But, in this year's election I am sick and tired of all of it. It seems to me it has been the worst pre-election I have seen in years.

Enough! I wish to say thank you to the personal who maned the Election Headquarters at the Macon County Courthouse. They did a great job handling the early voters with courtesy and efficiently. Again thanks.
