In the Thursday, January 26 Sylva Herald in an article by Nick Breedlove entitled “Commissioners Discuss Library Plaque,” County Commissioner Jack Debnam was quoted as saying that he did not believe in self-gratification. The Debnam quote went on to say “I would prefer the plaque say ‘paid for and dedicated to the people of Jackson County’—in any building the county builds.”

Drawing from Commissioner Debnam’s statement from the closed-session meeting of the county commissioners on January 13, I would like to suggest that our current county commissioners DO exactly what they say regarding the ongoing issue of what kind of ‘plaque’ is installed in our new county library complex.

I currently own three homes in Macon County all occupied by family members. I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with our federal government and local government procrastinating and not making decisions. Postponing everything for the next electorate or your children is not the way to run a government, day-to-day decisions should be made by the local government.

In my 79 years on this earth I have watched creeping socialism and is now our Army. Roadblocks to see your papers without probable cause.

I would like to thank Mr. Ron Haven for sitting through the last commissioners meeting and not making rude comments, yawning, whispering to the commissioner next to him, or scribbling notes on a piece of paper and passing them to Chester. I was outraged at some of the commissioner’s behavior while listening to the residents of Macon County voice their opinions on different subjects.

The public looks to these people to listen to their opinion and take it into account before making a decision, is this not why they hold public meetings?

Thank you to all whom came out and gave blood at Otto Community on February 11, 2012. Without your help we would not have been a success. We were able to get 25 usuable units, 27 people presented to donate.
