Outdoors Horticulturist to talk native plants on Spring Valley field trip

The public is invited to participate in a field trip to Spring Valley Nursery on Monday, Aug. 15, at 5 p.m.

Horticulturist and Master Gardener Bill Messina (pictured) will outline plants favored by birds, butterflies and other wild critters.

The nursery tour is sponsored by the Friends of the Rickman Store as part of the “Gardening for Wildlife Series” led by Debby Boots to promote a better understanding and care of wildlife habitats.

Spring Valley is a National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Certified Wildlife Habitat nursery and has a wide selection of natives among their stock of five acres of plants suited for this area.

Following the presentation, employees will conduct a tour of the nursery and offer to attendees a special discount on all native plants purchased. Meet at Spring Valley Nursery, 57 Saunders Road, at 5 p.m.
