Macon County Public Library will hold the third Walking with Spring series of programs in conjunction with downtown Franklin's April Fools Trail Days (aprilfoolstraildays.com) festival.
All programs are at 7 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room.
— Yoga for Hikers, with Robin Callahan, Monday, March 25, in the Library Meeting Room. Whether you’ve been practicing for years or you’re new to yoga, this class will offer some beneficial ways to stretch and de-stress before, during, or after your hike.
— Section Hiking with the Van Horns, Tuesday, March 26. Bill and Sharon Van Horn from the Nantahala Hiking Club will present a new program on section hiking. The Van Horns are avid section hikers who have covered 1,980 miles of the A.T. and plan to complete their last 220 miles through Maine in the Fall of 2013.
— Leave No Trace—Enjoying the Outdoors Responsibly, Wednesday, March 27. Mairi Padgett with Landmark Learning will talk about the Leave No Trace skills and ethics program, which applies to all outdoor enthusiasts and all environments. Participants will receive information on how to effectively integrate Leave No Trace into their daily lives.
— Peter J. Barr — A Journey Along the Appalachian Trail and Quest to Save the Shuckstack Fire Tower, Thursday, March 28. The author of Hiking North Carolina's Lookout Towers will share a picture-slideshow movie that he developed following his 2010 Appalachian Trail hike. Peter is currently working to preserve the Shuckstack Fire Tower and can answer questions about his hike, and fire towers, and anything beyond.
— April Fools Trail Day, Saturday, March 30, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Downtown Franklin. Visit the Macon County Public Library table at April Fools Trail Day for a fun craft for kids, and previews of upcoming library programs.
