The Franklin High School varsity basketball teams travelled to Tuscola on Tuesday, Feb. 12 for what would be their final regular season games. Both teams were coming off strong showings against West Henderson last Friday night, Feb. 8, when they both celebrated Senior Night with wins of 73-42 for the girls and 67-51 for the boys. Winter sport senior athletes and their families were honored before the Lady Panthers game. Senior Maggie Stewart was presented a commemorative basketball by Coach Harbarger shortly after she scored her 1,000th career point.

The Panthers were unable to stay in the win column against a surging Tuscola team. The Lady Panthers started off with a back and forth battle that resulted in a tie of 21-21 at half-time. The pace continued through the next two quarters, but favored Tuscola at the end of the game, 53-45. The Mountaineers came into the game riding a six-game winning streak with their last loss taking place at the Panther Den on Jan. 15. The Lady Panthers end their regular season with a 19-5 record over all and an 11-3 record in conference play.

The boys' team also played a well contested game and at the end of the third quarter possessed a four-point lead. In the fourth however, the Mountaineers outscored the Panthers by eight for a final score of 71-63. This leaves the boys with a 17- 7 record overall and an 8-6 conference record.

The conference tournament will begin in the Panther Den on Friday, Feb. 15, with the Panthers hosting in the first round of the playoffs. The boys' team will play North Henderson at 7:30 p.m. and the girls will play West Henderson beginning at 6 p.m.
