The Macon County Soccer Club (MCSC) U14 Storm started its season on Feb. 8 with a 3-1 win over CMSC Blue in Waynesville.
The Blue held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but the Storm fought back to score three goals in the second half. Goals were scored by Angel Chavez, Kyle Knop, and Omar Arellano.
On Sunday, Feb. 10, the Storm defeated PRAA Fyzabad (Charlotte) 1-0 in Asheville. It was a tight match that remained scoreless until the 20 minute mark of the second half, when Angel Chavez scored with an assist from Omar Arellano.
The U14 Storm lost its first home game of the season, falling 3-1 to CVYSA Blast Blue (Hickory). Omar Arellano scored in the first half, with an assist by Angel Chavez.
The Storm will play Saturday, Feb. 23, in Asheville against the YCVSC Eagles.

MCSC Panthers win season opener
The U16 Panthers won their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 16, with a 3-2 win over MUFC Navy (Charlotte). Riggy Hernandez scored first for the Panthers, with an assist by Francisco Licona. Navy scored once in each half, but also committed two fouls in the penalty box. Hernandez scored on both penalty kicks, and the outstanding play of goalkeeper Samuel Vargas helped the Panthers hold on for the win. The Panthers will play this Saturday in Charlotte against PRAA Harrisburg and on Sunday, will play the CUFC Charlotte United Green. Isidro Vargas coaches the U16 team.
The Macon County Soccer Club (MCSC) is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization providing children and families in Western North Carolina with both recreational and competitive soccer programs.
In addition to a Recreation League for ages 4 to 14, the club has competitive teams in the Challenge League and Classic League. The Classic League features travel teams that compete against some of the top soccer clubs in the state.
