Will compete in the Western Regionals in Greensboro
The Franklin High School Lady Panthers defeated the 3-A Mountain Athletic Conference Champions in the sectionals on Friday. The Enka Sugar Jets fell to the dominating Panthers, 61-49.
The Panthers will travel to Greensboro Thursday, to compete in the Western Regionals against conference rival Tuscola for their fourth meeting this season, with Franklin on the plus side at 2-1 against Tuscola.
Last Friday, March 1, the Lady Panthers took on the Enka Sugar Jets at the Panther Den in the third round of NCHSAA play-offs.
The game began as a back and forth affair that saw the Jets take a one point lead into half time.
The Franklin girls came out in the third quarter rejuvenated and ready to take control of the game, outscoring the opposing team by 13 points in the second half to seal the win in front of an enthusiastic hometown crowd, 61-49.
Tonight, (Thursday) the Lady Panthers will travel to Greensboro to take on the Tuscola Mountaineers in the 3A Regional Semi-Finals. This will be the fourth time the two teams have met with Franklin up two games to one, the last win taking place in the Semi-Finals of the WNCAC Conference Tournament.
Other sports news: The Franklin varsity baseball team started the season off with a loss to RGNS last week, but rebounded with a win Monday against Rabun County, 4-2.
The game scheduled for Tuesday against Murphy was cancelled and rescheduled for today at the Macon Middle School at 4:30.
The Franklin Panther varsity softball team started their season off strong, winning Monday against Hiwasee Dam, 7-0. Their game with Murphy was also rescheduled for Thursday.
