Last Friday night, the Franklin High School varsity football team travelled to Asheville to take on the T.C. Roberson Rams. The Panthers would be going into the contest without standout running back Marquel Manning who tore his MCL in the game against Murphy. It is predicted that he will miss two to seven weeks of play.
Despite being down one rushing threat, the team had back up for such a situation. Filling in for Manning, Jeremiah Young rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams played Franklin tight and kept them on their toes throughout all four quarters. As time wound down in the fourth quarter, Franklin held on to a lead of 35-31.
Tomorrow night the Panthers will look to avenge last year's 44-7 loss to the Swain County Maroon Devils. The game takes place at the Panther Pit at 7:30 p.m. The fourth annual Salute to the Veteran's event will begin at 6:30 p.m. This is a special event held in honor of local veterans for their service. All veterans will be recognized on the track in front of the crowd. Blue Ridge will provide entertainment and each veteran and a guest will get in free. In case of rain, the event will be moved inside.
Tickets are available at the high school, the Chamber of Commerce or Party Zone in Franklin.
